Attractions and Things To Do

At Netherhall Gardens

With many activities and pursuits to enjoy indoors, including chess, board games, reading, and of course, cooking up some hearty fare, rainy days in the Highlands are well and truly covered.

Long soaks in the tub are compulsory, as is curling up in front of the fire, whatever the weather!

Stroll around the gardens outside and lounge next to the stream with a good book, bask in dappled light and the meditative trickle of the water, and watch for Confit and L’Orange, the regular ducks at the duck pond.

In Bundanoon

Tennis court hire is available in Bundanoon, and bushwalking for most fitness levels is plentiful in nearby Morton National Park. Just a short stroll away is the walk to the famed Glow Worm Glen – a truly fairy-tale picturesque destination.

A meander into the village of Bundanoon proffers cafes with wonderful coffee, many specialty shops, and an exciting art gallery space located within the village nursery. Country markets are held fortnightly in the town hall, and monthly the village is treated to piano recitals in the Village Hall.

The Surrounds

With a burgeoning viticulture industry and a reputation for premium cool climate wines, a break in the Southern Highlands is incomplete without a visit to some vineyards. A tasting of local specialties including chardonnay riesling, pinot noir and merlot, followed by a tantalizing lunch at one of the wineries is an absolute must.

Blessed with a wonderful climate year-round (a welcome break from the humid coastal weather in summer, and crisp, sunny winter mornings), golf is a popular sport in the Highlands, with many exceptional courses just a short drive (if you’ll excuse the pun) from Netherhall Gardens.

Renowned for galleries, homewares and antiques, Bowral town centre is just a pleasant country drive away, and the historic Australian colonial township of Berrima just 15 minutes away. Perfect for a browse through the many gift shops and boutique providores, a visit to Berrima is incomplete without a stop at one of the many teahouses for a Devonshire Tea.

The country market scene in the Southern Highlands is one not to be missed. Not a Sunday goes by without a village showcasing their local wares, from Burrawang to Tallong!

Other attractions in the area include:

-          Berkelouw Book Barn and Café, north of Berrima
-          Bradman Museum of Cricket, Bowral
-          Fitzroy Falls
-          Open Gardens (Sept/Oct)
-          Endless fantastic nurseries
-          Brigadoon, Bundanoon (April)

Or simply luxuriate in your surroundings at Netherhall Gardens and do nothing at all.
